My Twitch Recap Was a Pleasant Reminder

My wrap up was a pleasant reminder that I achieved some good things this year. | Source: Twitch

Over the last few years, every platform has followed in Spotify’s foot steps and revealed the metrics of our lives and how we pass the time. You scroll through and find out that maybe you were in the top .005% of people who listened to IDLES this year ( the new record is pretty good) and that June was your “Pink Pilates Princess Strut Pop” season. Maybe you find out that you had podcasts running in your ears for 64 days 12 hours and 52 minutes worth of time (yep, these are all me.)

These metrics are just fluff, really. Just how much time we’ve spent half-listening or absorbing information. Some people I’m sure look at these numbers and feel a sense of loss. “Where did the time go?” “I could’ve done so much more with my 64 days 12 hours and 52 minutes than this!”

Then Twitch had to go and do it. For me, 2024 has been a year of intense joy and frustration, especially around content creation.

This year alone: Jenny and I STARTED planning our wedding, I had a bout with GERD, & I got a new 40 hour position at the library after 6 years as part-time. Throughout all these major life events, I still streamed 3 days a week and produced podcasts (though Destiny Digest took a backburner for a couple months).

I’m not complaining, I love streaming and community building. I love helping to raise money for charity. This year alone we raised $12,075 for the Bungie Foundation, Second Helpings & Direct Relief’s efforts to help alleviate the impact of Hurricane Helene.

This year I saw tremendous career highlights. I was a Featured Creator for Game2Give, I became an Elgato Ambassador, a guinea pig for the #BaronBingo event, I really started attempting to make variety content across my channels (20 games on stream this year!) and I started in earnest to make YouTube guides to help folks get through game activities! I’m incredibly proud of these accomplishments!

My frustrations mainly have to do with time. Time to spend with Jenny. Time to get projects done. Time to create new projects and fulfill partner obligations. There just hasn’t been enough.

I’ve been managing it better, I feel, since the wedding and getting the new position. I’m more structured. I’m more disciplined to get up and work on projects before my day job. That’s been a huge boon.

Other frustrations have been some platform changes and growing pains from doing more variety away from Destiny content. These things are out of my control. I’m trying my best to buck the urge to hold steadfast in the face of the wave and instead drop in and ride it.

Regardless of the frustrations, I’m proud of our community! That’s really the backbone of what we do. What I do. You’ve been incredible this year and I’m so grateful for the support! We’re going to celebrate you all on January 2nd with the first annual Dandies awards! If you’d like to vote and nominate people for awards, fill out my Performance Review here! You’ll also be able to help steer the ship in 2025 by letting me know what platforms you watch, what creator’s you’d like me to work with and more. All of this will help 2025, my ninth year in Content Creation, be better than ever before!!

Thank you for your generosity and glad to know you!

P.S. Welcome to the website!
